Meet Our New PR and Social Media Intern
I’m always excited when I find myself at the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Today marks my first day as a Public Relations and Social Media intern at the Seattle Art Museum, and the start of a new professional adventure with opportunities and possibilities to discover.
I’m looking forward to interacting with you fellow SAM lovers online, but before we begin I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I’m a Pacific Northwest native, born and raised in Vancouver, WA. A little over a year ago I moved to Seattle to study at UW and pursue a career in public relations. I’ve since become a true Seattleite and have thus begun carrying an umbrella religiously, spending the better part of my paycheck at Starbucks, listening to indie music, and mourning over the plight of the Mariners. As a bibliophile most of my free time is spent reading and writing. My other artistic endeavors include photography and cooking. Finally, I’m an outdoorsman to the bone and jump at every chance I get to go snowboarding, hiking, sailing, or to the beach.
My path to SAM was rather unconventional. Although I have the utmost respect and admiration for the visual arts, what drew me here were not the awe-inspiring collections, but rather SAM’s passion for its cause. I began working with nonprofit organizations several years ago through my community service involvements. I discovered quickly that those who believe in their work exude joy and have a true sense of purpose. I continued my early career by interning at a public television station. Once again, I found my colleagues to be passionate about producing quality products that served and educated their community. I knew that these are values the employees of SAM share. Most people view the Seattle Art Museum as a renowned institution that displays remarkable pieces. This is undoubtedly true; however, I see SAM as something even greater. I see an establishment that is passionate about bringing art into the lives of Seattleites, and gives back to its community by encouraging creativity, providing experiences that provoke thought and broaden global understanding, and bringing artistic beauty to a wet, dreary city.
I have no doubt that the next few months will be filled with exceptional learning experiences, professional opportunities, and a whole lot of fun! It’s an honor to be able to share in SAM’s endeavor of connecting art to life.
